Education

AIS is made up of many kinds of people. Some of those people have for the first time experienced how it is like to be in an international school. Some of those people were in a Vietnamese school before, where the way of teaching is very different than from AIS. Here are some responses to the question "how is Vietnamese education different from AIS."

What We Love About AIS

Many students love AIS for many different reasons. We are all different, and unique people, and therefore look at things differently. Here is a video about about students, saying "what they love about AIS."

Even though we are all different people, are answers were very similar or the same. Maybe that's because we live in the same environment.

Social Studies and Science

Every day, we have 7 subjects. In seventh and eighth periods, we have social studies and science.

In Social Studies, we learn about history of many countries, like Russia, China and Egypt. We also discuss about environmental and economical issues. A lot of times, we have to discuss with our classmates about a topic. In social studies, we do a lot of posters, projects and quizzes. Mr. Blake teaches the topic in many ways.  Sometimes at the beginning of the class, we do a journal.  Social studies class like a combination of English, Science, and History combined into one class.

In science class, we mostly take many notes and many diagrams to learn about our topic. We also watch some interesting videos about life science. The most interesting parts of Life Science are experiments and pizza prize. Experiments are really fun to do because you can actually be in a lab and do stuff, like planting a flower. The pizza prize is a competition between all the classes. The class that does the most homework in a quarter will get a pizza at the end of the quarter.

Below are some interviews of our social studies and science teachers.

Lunch

Every day, we have seven subjects. In fifth period, we have lunch. This period doesn't count as a subject.

After all the hard working morning we had in school, lunch it’s a time to release all the stress we may have. In lunch, we eat, obviously, then some students go to play basketball, some go to class maybe to finish their homework, or to go to redo their missing assignment, some go to the library to have a quick nap to relax etc.  The time of lunch is 50 minutes, which is long enough for us to have our mine to relax in order to study the rest of the period. Lunch is a time that every school had.

Math

Every day, we have 7 subjects. In sixth period, we have math.

In math period, we study a lot of useful leson that will help us in the future. Like the Exponential stuff, it helps me to know how much a thing increase. Like if a population of a country suddenly increases, I can draw a graph with help me to know how much it increase. We just finish a mindmap project, and many students have a lot of creative mind map. When we walked in Ms. Brennan room, the rooms is like full of creative knowledge, it’s like Art that mix with Math.

Chinese, English, and ICT

Every day, we have seven subjects. First period is Chinese, third period is English, and the fourth period is ICT or Vietnamese.

It is very essential for students to learn a 3rd language, maybe 4th to some of us, and it is Chinese. Chinese is now the 2nd common language in the whole world. We are really grateful to have Wu Lao Shi (Mr. Allen) as our Chinese teacher because he is very funny and nice. Chinese is not an easy subject, which means we students have to focus a lot in class in order to learn this subject. Despite that, we are also informed with some Chinese movies once or twice a month, it is an honor to watch them because we can learn Chinese even more from them.

AIS students get to learn a variety of skills in ICT. This is also an important subject. We learn it now and will absolutely apply it to the future. It is very exciting in ICT because we can express ourselves through our poster designs, models and projects. Besides Art, ICT is also a way to show our artistic talent.

The most essential subject in school is Language Arts. A lot of skills are required in this subject. Everyday we have bell work, in which we have to write a paragraph with a non-stop speed for five minutes. We read interesting non-fiction stories, answer questions about the stories by making a poster, then it comes the presentation. We learn a lot of things in Language Arts, we discover a new idiom every day and try to understand it by composing a sentence. The thing that makes Language Arts more fun is our dear teacher, Mr. Patrick. He was born to be hilarious, nice and very talented. We all find it very significant to read books and our Language Arts reads books all his life, which is fantastic.

Below are some interviews of our English and Chinese teachers. Unfortunately, we don't have an interview of our ICT teacher, Mr. Michael.

Art and PE

Every day, we have 7 subjects. In second period, half of our class has Art while the other half has PE.

We have 2 subjects and each we have to go to half years. They’re art and PE. In art we can do creative things and this years is Ms Sarah is our teacher. This semester we make tribal printing mask and we are up to new project with clay. I like to be in Art class because I can create things with my creative mind. In art we have to be dirty all the time, sometime we covered with paint and charcoal. The only time we not dirty is when we writing vocabulary and critique.

In PE is a little bit different, we have to be in a box, for example: Monday court game, Tuesday Track, Wednesday Tennis. Everything’s is the same except court game can be different games and Friday is free games. Mr. Tim is our teacher. In PE we have to be wet all the times except Thursday when we study Health. I like PE because I can have time to go outside and play some sport with friend.

Unfortunately, we don't have an interview for both.

Culture

Many people have different cultures. People all over the world have different cultures. Even people from the same country have different cultures. Technology

In our daily lives, we use technology for several purposes. We use it to research our information to understand a topic better. We use technology to develop our creativity by presenting information through prezi, podcasts or videos.  We use technology to interact with our classmates and ask them questions about an assignment or homework.  Without technology, none of those things would be possible, and therefore our creativity and knowledge wouldn’t be able to expand.

Vietnamese Internationalism

In our school, there are people from all over the world. We have people from Korea, Japan, India, Czech Republic and more. We interact with these people with different cultures to learn more about the world and its people. By interacting with different people, we can understand each other and develop empathy. By developing empathy, we develop care for the world, which is important in order to solve major world issues like global warming. Here in this video, there are examples of people from different countries, saying hello to students, teachers, the staff and the whole AIS school.

Cat Tien Gallery

Here are some pictures of Cat Tien. In Cat Tien, we had an opportunity to experience the wilderness in Vietnam. We saw many kinds of animals, and trees and buildings. We got to experience something that you wouldn’t be able to experience in HCMC. The Cat Tien field trip has taught us many lessons, like never giving up, living with nature, or appreciating your friends. This field trip was truly memorable.

Walk-Around

Here, we would like to show you our school, and how it looks like inside. This video will show you most of the classrooms in AIS, the library, ICT rooms and more.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eDDi8U2PT54

This is our environment in AIS. Because of our environment, we are able to interact with many kinds of people, and learn from them. We have many resources, like computers or books to gather information and learn about a topic we want to. Our teachers are foreigners who speak English, and therefore we are able to learn from them and improve our own English.
